It was a pleasure to meet with Julia Silvestri for their ASL Slam Spotlight. I discussed my experience in becoming an interpreter and we talked about how to take advantage of the social media for our Deaf community’s presence and voice in the general public, echoing what the South African deaf community did in order to get the media’s attention on the ‘Fake Interpreter’ at Mandela’s memorial.
