Great article on flexibility of Deaf Brain and Sign Language
It’s great to see more research are showing Sign Language in a more positive light, and hopefully that will have an impact in the future where Doctors and schools will recognize the value of a Deaf child being bilingual in Sign Language and English or whatever spoken language of the country, rather than suggest the child to only focus on the spoken language and not learn Sign Language. Its all about having a great foundation in at least 1 language at an early age, then learning 2nd or more languages becomes easier.
Deaf Interpreters in simultaneous and consecutive contexts

Great article on the impact of interpretation error
This article is a reminder for us interpreters to constantly monitor our interpretation, and ensuring that we work in teams, not solo. Just being bilingual is not enough, one must have full understanding of the translation process and how to analyze for meaning in both languages. Theatre Interpreting: Not By Bread Alone
I recently interpreted 4 shows for this show, “Not By Bread Alone,” at NYU’s Skirball theatre. It was a great experience meeting the cast of Deaf-Blind actors from Israel. Not By Bread Alone. The performances were in January, 2013. 4 languages happening simultaneously, Hebrew, Israeli Sign Language, English and American Sign Language.

I’m honored to be an Emcee for the Northeastern University’s ASL Festival in March, and I will be co-presenting “Letting go of form: An experience with International Sign” along with Bill Moody. More details to come.
I also have been invited to be a presenter along with Byron Bridges for Aspen Camp’s ASL Boot Camp, in April!
I am currently teaching Advanced ASL II at LaGuardia Community College for 10 weeks. It’s going well and I enjoy working with the students who wanted to fine tune their ASL skills and analyze the language on a deeper level.

Sign this petition to recognize ASL
As a Deaf individual who tried to learn how to speak before learning to sign, I was considered a failure at the age of 2, my family decided to try ASL, and on that first day I was exposed to ASL, I quickly learned a few words that day, and that day changed my life and my family’s life. We then learned ASL together, and now I also Speak, lipread, read and write English and am a full fledged bilingual and bicultural person. All thanks to American Sign Language.
While American Sign Language is recognized by the Deaf community here in the United States as our official language, it has yet been recognized by the United States Government as one of the official languages of this country. This petition would give Deaf children in this country the opportunity to feel empowered and have their language recognized by the schools, teachers, and government services and hopefully by Doctors. While Deaf children are able to communicate with English, Sign language is a natural language for a Deaf child who experiences life through visual means. Please spread the word!

Leadership Summit
This is a 3 day long leadership summit here in Honolulu, and we are a team of 5 presenters/trainers. Glenn Anderson, Rod MacDonald, Sharon Neumann Solow, Marty Taylor and myself. I am presenting this morning with Rod MacDonald on diversity within the D/deaf community. This afternoon, I will be presenting with Sharon Neumann Solow on Values and Communications.
Presented at Region IV Conference
Sharon Neumann Solow and I presented our Deaf and Hearing Interpreting Team workshop which was 6 hours long and filled with group discussions and activities. We felt it was a great success, and we hope our participants enjoyed and left with a greater understanding of the importance of shared responsibility and shared gifts that both Deaf interpreters and Hearing interpreters bring to the team.
